There’s something about the simple lines of an 11-window Kombi that is hard to beat. They’ve a functional, no frills beauty, especially when they’re painted in Dove Blue, as the vast majority of these former Commercials came from VW finished in.
With its paler blue paint scheme and contrasting black roof and matching bumpers, this one is a fresh take on that winning formula.
This VW camper van was painted a number of years ago and still looks as fresh as a daisy. It’s been through our hands previously, but recently came back to us when the last owner decided it was time to move it on again.
Whilst the van might look simple on the outside, underneath is pretty special. It’s running a full air-management system so is great to drive, and it stops as well as it goes thanks to a sweet running twin carbed 1600 engine and disc brakes front and back. Inside, it’s been built to be the perfect day van. There’s lots of room for carrying all manner of things on the checkerboard flooring and the rear bench seat converts into a rock ’n’ roll bed. There’s a full compliment of pop-out rear windows, plus there’s no point having a Split Screen without front Safari windows, and this one has all of those, and more. If you’re looking for an affordable, solid and highly usable Split, this ’59 with its letterbox rear window and small taillights will tick all the boxes.
