1966 "Double Door" Sundial Split Screen "Sundial" Camper
In northern California in 1966 under the name of EZ Campers, conversions of the humble panel van were being turned into what was known as the Sundial Camper. These campers were very well thought out and very well made, the vast majority of course were single side van conversions, a very few, as in this spectacular bus, were "Double Doors" making this an extremely rare Camper.
Found in Colorado in 2007 the Camper was imported by the current owner to the UK. It was a solid bus but needed a few mechanical items sorting and upgrading, (all done by Type 2 Detectives). Upgrades included, upgrade of the braking system to dual circuit brakes and the addition of discs brakes to replace the original drum items and a new narrowed beam with dropped spindles to keep all the geometry correct. The engine has also been upgraded to a 2.0 twin carb engine ensuring that it is more than usable on todays roads.
The interior needed some love as it was tatty and worse for wear and so this was replicated to the exact specifications of the original Sundial interior, keeping all the original Sundial emblems and cooler badge. The interior was then finished off with a lovely sea green fabric.
This Split screen has been cherished from day one and it is testament to the owner for the choice accessories that have been fitted. With classic Westy awnings for both sides of the camper along with front hammock and other choice accessories this really is an amazing camper and one that needs to be seen to be appreciated.
Sundial Campers are beautiful things, mechanically upgraded as this one is and then with the added bonus of being a Double Door, it really is the perfect retro classic camper its the perfect camper for Goodwood or CarFest or Silverstone Classic, the list goes on!
Having been through the Type 2 Detectives workshop with one of our rigorous Health Checks, the Camper will be supplied with a service and a fresh MOT for the new owner.
