1970 Karmann Ghia Coupe

U.S Californian Ghia

Karmann Ghia's are recognised as one of the prettiest vehicles ever penned. Debuted as the Type 14 at the October 1953 Paris Auto Show as a styling concept, the Volkswagen executives proposed a halo car to its model range. Coachbuilder Karmann were commissioned for its manufacture and in turn contracted the Italian firm Ghia, who adapted styling themes previously explored for Chrysler and Studebaker to a Beetle floor pan widened by (300 mm).

The Karmann Ghia's body panels were butt-welded, hand-shaped, and smoothed with English pewter in a time-consuming process commensurate with higher-end manufacturers, resulting in the Karmann Ghia's stunning bodywork.

This particular Karman Ghia is a 1970 model year and wears the most amazing but subtle patina collected in the Californian sunshine.

Mechanically the Ghia had a thorough going through in 2016 when it arrived in the UK. It has a suitably subtle interior finished to e very high standard with Dog Check cloth and black vinyl.
