Type 2 Detectives, specialise in the sales, maintenance, restoration and modification of air-cooled classic air-cooled Volkswagens. We have built numerous award-winning vehicles for clients across the globe. From the humble Beetle to the T2 bay window camper, split screen camper van, Karmann Ghia and Type 3.
We undertake all aspects from vehicles sales and sourcing vehicles, (pre purchase inspections), Mechanical and safety upgrades, bespoke builds, metalwork, paintwork, trim and full mechanical overhauls.
Type 2 Detectives is run by Paul and Mark with a fantastic team supporting them. We are based outside the historic city of Cambridge, UK in a light, airy workshop with a showroom, vehicle storage and parking. You will have seen many of the vehicles which have passed through or currently reside in our workshop in the press and on TV, like Octane, Volksworld, Camper & Bus and Ultra VW, plus many other global publications.
Paul started Type 2 Detectives (originally called Type 3 Detectives) way back in the late 90’. His love of Type 3’s from an early age has been his driving force for the classic air-cooled Volkswagen. (Paul always has one if not two Type 3’s lurking around in the back ground somewhere). Paul built a reputation for turning out some of the lowest, coolest ground breaking builds from the Square "Black" to the Brazilian Kerb Snake with numerous vehicles being hit with the lowering stick.
Over the last few years we have developed the core business as well as introducing the popular Boot Camp Maintenance training days. The Bus Boot Camp maintenance days are for all classic Air-cooled Volkswagens and run around 10 times a year. Type 2 Detectives are also lucky enough to attend some very prestigious events such as Goodwood Members Meetings and the Goodwood Revival as well as London Classic Car Show and Carfest. We regularly build promotional vehicles for clients such as Deus ex Machina, Right Guard (Henkel) and 3 Oceans. We have also been involved with Discovery and Quest TV shows such as Salvage Hunters with Drew Pritchard and For the Love of Cars with Ant Anstead.
Mark’s first car was a 1966 Beetle, with numerous other VW's since, (we all know there is no going back once you have been bitten by the first one). With a background in sales and marketing, Paul and Mark have worked for many years developing the Type 2 Detectives services.
If you would like to discuss your project, upgrades or general maintenance of your classic air-cooled Volkswagen, we would love to hear from you.
