The car:
1960 Karmann Ghia, U.S Californian Ghia
Coachbuilder Karmann were commissioned to build the Type 14 for its manufacture and in turn contracted the Italian firm Ghia, who adapted styling themes previously explored for Chrysler and Studebaker to a Beetle floor pan widened by (300 mm).
Karmann Ghia's are recognised as one of the prettiest vehicles ever penned. Debuted as a styling concept, the Volkswagen executives proposed a halo car to its model range.
A very solid US 1960 Karmann Ghia, this particular car has obviously been well preserved during its almost 60 year life. It still has the original interior, albeit the drivers seat now sports a cover to hide the wear. It has been repainted at some stage leaving it over time with a glazed type finish.
This Ghia draws so much attention. Not only are Karmann Ghia's a rare site, one that has a lot of its originality with this much character and interesting patina are exceptionally rare!
The car needs to be viewed to be truly appreciated.
