We’ve built a few traditional buggies over the years from Empi Imps to Meyers Manx but this build hits a little bit different. We wanted to build a basic, brutalist, modern buggy with a limited colour palette and a couple of tasteful but beautifully engineered mods while still keeping the traditional buggy ethos. Big rear tyres, lightweight, small but hopped up engine, quick and agile, everything a short wheel based beach buggy has always represented, but most importantly, fun.
This buggy is built out of entirely new and refurbished components to the highest quality with a some trick T2D modifications, the most obvious of which is the custom trekker style folding screen with it’s ingenious fuel cap fastening.
Built on a newly shortened 1973 VW Beetle pan by Volksmagic, the best floorpan wizards in the business, with a deep brown metalflake body this build looks incredible when the light hits it.
Narrowed front beam with CSP disk brakes. At the rear new drum brakes with 924 cylinders, with steel braided lines with IRS rear end, the best of everything. Seats are aluminium Porsche Speedster with a Gene Berg shifter, three spoke momo-esque steering wheel. Basic again with the dash, just with a single period VW speedometer with charging and oil pressure light as standard, all you need.
Polished Empi wheels, dished at the rear with huge Summit Highway tyres, with 165/50/15 on the tucked front end.
1641cc flat four engine with twin weber carb, with everything ceracoated black or polished to continue the basic colour palette throughout. Four into one exhaust into a short stinger, what else for a buggy!
