Taking inspiration from the stateside safari 911 builds and our own success with building Baja bugs we decided to set out to build an off-road capable Porsche 914.
The 914 is a unique set up so far as classic Porsches go with a mid mounted engine transferring the weight forward compared to the pendulous 911 of the same era. We like to test our builds, they need to function as intended and this car certainly does that as is clear from some of our action shots below. Plenty of power, well balanced and above all a lot of fun!
The car itself is a rust free Californian import, left hand drive, as with all Porsche 914. All the original features work as they should including the lift our targa roof which when fitted seals out the weather nicely. Pop up headlights, a pair of houndstooth trimmed seats, super cool Momo Veloce steering wheel, almost all standard equipment on a 914.
Body wise apart from a few small age related scars we decontaminated and repainted where necessary, the side flags went black which has become a T2D trademark move on a 914. The bumpers and underside were coated in Raptor to protect it from any future outings of misadventure. Side Porsche decals, fresh 1800cc engine. New engine bay seals, fuel tank.
For suspension the shocks were modified in-house to raise the car for maximum ground clearance about 4 1/2 inches with original refurbished 14” Fuchs wheels wearing Maxis Worm-Drive all terrain tyres.
It drives incredibly like a stock 914 although from an elevated position using de-cambered Elephant Racing ball joints.
Take a look at the build episode below, we’re so pleased with how it looks and drives and it gets so much attention wherever it goes, a break from the norm which we love and now it could be yours!
